Dear fellow Java programmers,

Today I’m excited to introduce a programming test service which I found recently, a couple of weeks ago. After experimenting with the service by taking a Java test, I think that I need to share with you because you can benefit from this outstanding test service whether you are a programmer or a team leader.

Overview of Tests 4 Geeks

Tests for Geeks logoHere is some brief information about this testing service:

Tests for Geeks is an online testing service that focuses on assessing programming skills in various languages and technologies: Java, PHP, .NET, HTML, Javascript, Python, Ruby, C, etc.

If you are a programmer/developer, you can take the tests and show off the results to impress your recruiter in order to get your desired job easier. You will save time and money for seeking jobs in programming with this service.

In case you are a team lead, HR manager or recruiter, this service saves you time and money during the hiring process. It’s something like a filter before inviting the qualified candidates to a face-to-face interview. It also helps you ignore the candidates who have bad results.

It’s easy and straightforward to invite a candidate: choose the needed test e.g. Java, generate a unique link and send it to the candidate. Once the candidate finished the test, you get the result report via email.

In addition, you can publish the test link on your websites so the candidates can take the test without your participation. They will just indicate their names and contact information before passing the test.

If you have candidates overseas or you want to hire freelancer, then this service will fit your needs perfectly. Just send them a link to test.

My Java Test Experience

Here is my experience with the free Java test on Tests 4 Geeks.

I took a test with 20 questions and time limit is 40 minutes. The questions are quite good to test skills of any programmer.

Once registered, you can take a free test immediately. Go to https://tests4geeks.com/test/java you will see the description about Java test like this:

Java Programming Test 1

Click Pass Test by Myself. The next screen tells you about the rules. Read this carefully before starting:

Java Test Step 2

Then click I understand the rules, Start the Test to begin. I went through 20 questions regarding object oriented programming, types, operators, exceptions, threads & synchronization, collections & generics, singleton and JPA-Hibernate.

There are two types of questions: single choice and multiple choices.

In my opinion, the questions are very well-prepared and challenging but I like them. It was very easy, intuitive and smooth experience.

One interesting feature that impresses me is the locking. If you press any keys more than three times, the test will stop. This prevents a candidate from searching answers from the Internet which is really cool in case you want to short list some candidates without worries.

Then I finished the test:

Test is finished

Not a bad score, right? That’s enough to indicate me as a good candidate so I would be qualified for an interview:

You can see the test report details in PDF:

Java Test Report

I found this report very helpful in terms of knowing what I am good and what I am weak in order to improve my skills. That’s great!

You also receive the report via email once the test finished:

Finally, my experience with this Java test was fantastic and I’m eager to take the HTML and Javascript tests to assess my skills in these areas. I recommend you to choose Tests 4 Geeks to test yourself or evaluate your candidates before an interview.

Another Great Feature

I notice that this service allows you to use your own domain name and logo so candidate will think that it’s your company’s screening service. You can find detailed information about this feature here: https://tests4geeks.com/logo-url

Besides the 2 free tests, I’m also curious about the prices. You can buy 3 tests for $29.95, 10 Tests for $59.95 and Unlimited Tests for $99.95. They also offer good discounts (up to 58%) if you buy 3 months to 1 year subscriptions. I think that is fair and flexible pricing in terms of money and time you would save when using this service.
