In this short article, I’d like to share with you the steps to completely uninstall Apache NetBeans IDE from Windows operating system, suppose that you have an installation of NetBeans which was installed by NetBeans installer program.

Follow these steps to fully remove NetBeans IDE from your computer (suppose that the version is Apache NetBeans 12.1).

  • Go to Control Panel à Add or Remove Programs, select Apache NetBeans 12.1 and click Uninstall. Follow the steps of the uninstaller. It will delete NetBeans installation directory as well as shortcuts on desktop and Start menu.
  • Delete the NetBeans user directory which can be found in C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\NetBeans\12.1 – this directory stores settings and configurations of NetBeans IDE.
  • Delete the NetBeans Cache directory which can be found in C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local \NetBeans\Cache\12.1 – this store temporary files that were created by NetBeans.
  • In your user home directory, delete all the directories starting with .nb or .netbeans – those directories were also created by NetBeans.

That’s how to completely uninstall NetBeans IDE from a Windows computer. Note that you may need to set the option to show hidden files in Windows Explorer in order to see the mentioned directories. And depending on how you use NetBeans, the cache directory can hold a huge amount of data.
